Our Story

Mountain people first, travel company second

Born in Kinnaur, bound to its villages, and devoted to sharing the Himalaya the way it deserves to be felt.

Snow Wolf Travels was born in Rakchham, a village high in the Baspa valley of Kinnaur, out of a simple belief: that the Himalaya should be felt, not just visited. We are mountain people first and travel company second — raised on these ridgelines, fluent in their weather, and bound to the villages that give the region its soul.

We craft journeys for travellers who want the real thing. Not a checklist of viewpoints seen through a bus window, but slow, immersive expeditions into the hidden Himalaya — the villages beyond the tourist trail, the monasteries where butter lamps have burned for a thousand years, the passes where the air thins and the world falls away below you.

Responsible tourism is not a marketing line for us; it is the only way we know how to travel. We keep our groups small, stay in family homestays, buy from local kitchens and craftspeople, and leave every campsite cleaner than we found it. When you travel with Snow Wolf, your journey flows directly back into the communities that make it possible.

Culture sits at the heart of everything. We share meals of siddu and thukpa around bukhari fires, pour home-brewed Barley Wine under the stars, and introduce you to elders whose stories stretch back generations. These are not performances staged for visitors — they are genuine welcomes into a living way of life.

And then there is the wild. The Hangrang valley is snow leopard country, where the ghost of the mountains still roams the ridgelines. Blue sheep graze the scree, griffons ride the thermals, and the rivers run turquoise with glacial melt. We move gently through this landscape, celebrating every sighting and honouring the silence in between.

When night falls, we look up. Far from any city glow, the skies here hold some of the darkest, clearest starfields in the country. The Milky Way ignites from ridge to ridge, and our evenings are built around it — cameras on tripods, chai in hand, a bonfire crackling, and the quiet awe of a hundred thousand stars.

This is what Snow Wolf offers: adventure with meaning, comfort without compromise, and a way of travelling that honours both the land and the people who call it home. Come for the mountains. Leave changed by them.
